Fourth Dan Black Belts and Higher Power Ice Breaking

Competition shall be divided by age, belt, and gender.
 

The age of the competitor as of December 31 shall determine the age of that competitor as regards to competition. The competitor must compete for the entire calendar year at the age they will be on December 31.
 

Besides age, belt, and weight, competition shall also be divided by categories.. All age divisions shall consist of the following belt divisions:

                 Novice - White, Yellow, Orange

                 ​Intermediate - Green, Blue, Purple

                 Advanced - Red, Brown, Brown/Black
                 Black Belt - Poom and Dan Ranks

Board sizes will be supplied by the tournament director. All boards will be available for purchase at the venue. All boards used for competition must be purchased through the tournament director. No boards sourced from a 3rd party will be allowed for competition use. All boards will be subject to inspection anytime before or during the competition. For power breaking competition, boards may be taped only after inspection.

Cinder blocks used as support materials will be supplied by the tournament director. No more than four cinder blocks may be used for repetitive events. Up to four cinder blocks may be used for power events. Any other special breaking apparatus required must be supplied by the competitor. Spacers required for breaks will be supplied by the tournament director.

For any timed break that requires board holders, the number of board holders/feeders will be limited to two (2) feeders and two (2) holders.

Penalties may be assessed during Repetitive Timed Breaking  Events in the following situations:

                  1. A 0.5 second penalty will be assessed for each board where a coach breaks the board before the athlete strikes it.

                  2. If the competitor breaks more than one board with a single strike, the break will be disqualified.

SPEED KICKING RULES

  1. Sixty second execution time.

  2. Must perform front kick at belt height.

  3. The kicking leg must contact the floor before the other foot can leave the floor to do its kick. Failure to do this procedure will result in disqualification.

  4. Participants must be wearing only their uniform and belt.

  5. No socks, sparring gear, tape, etc.

POWER BOARD BREAKING RULES

POWER HAND BREAKS:

  1. Single Break Format - Athletes must provide the number of boards they intend to break before breaking begins.

  2. Board breaking is open to all athletes.

  3. One station per athlete.

  4. Acceptable techniques include fist, hammer fist, palm heel, knifehand, and ridgehand.

 5. Spacers are REQUIRED.
 
POWER FOOT BREAKS:  
1. Up to four cinder blocks may be used. If using board holders, max of 2 holders.
2. One attempt is allowed.
3. Judging criteria are based on the number of boards broken to determine the winner. The competitor who breaks the most (or, in the event of a tie, has the highest percentage broken) is the winner.
4. Single Break Format - Athletes must provide the number of boards they intend to break before breaking begins.
5. One Station per competitor.
6. Maximum of two board holders or use of four cinder blocks. Cinder blocks may not be used as stepping or launching platforms for competitors.
7. Acceptable techniques include axe kick, stomp, or side kick.
8. Spacers are required (spacers will be provided by the organizing committee).
9. 90 second time limit on set up and break.
10. Judging criteria are based on the number of boards broken to determine the winner. The competitor who breaks the most (or, in the event of a tie, has the highest percentage broken) is the winner.
Athletes may not stomp. At the highest point of the kick the kicking foot must be higher than the belt level. If not the break will not count.

SPEED BOARD BREAKING RULES

  1. Single break format: One (1) board per strike.

  2. Allowed hand techniques include Hammer, Knife, Ridge, Palm, Fist/Punch

  3. 10-board competition

  4. Maximum of two board holders and two feeders OR use of three cinder blocks with two feeders.

POWER CONCRETE & ICE BREAKING RULES

  1. Single Break Format

  2. Athletes must provide the number of ice they intend to break before breaking begins. Only 5th Degree and higher athletes are permitted to compete in power ice breaking.

  3. One station per athlete.

  4. Acceptable techniques include fist, hammer fist, palm heel, knifehand, and ridgehand.
